Thrifted Greatness, and Crafty Goodness!

Hi Everyone!

Life has been CRAZY busy, but I did get an A on my Humanities Mid-term, and an A on my critical thinking essay, so all the study hours weren't in vain! Yeah for me!

It's been a long while since I showed pictures of some of my favorite thrifted goodies, so I'm sharing some today. I took some pics of a few things I've made lately too. One is a WIP, and the other is completed. For those of you that quilt I would love some ideas about how to machine quilt the top I have finished. I'm WAY new at machine quilting. Any ideas come to mind about a simple pattern that would work well with this big block quilt? The blocks are about 15". This is pretty much a scrap quilt. I used old sheets, thrifted fabric, thrifted curtains. This will be for my daughter. She has a birthday coming up soon, so maybe I can finish it in time. Don't you LOVE that vintage girl fabric? Of course I got it from the thrift store. 5 yards for under 5 dollars. WOO-HOO! I remember having a bedspread just about like that when I was little. I always loved it, so this fabric is near and dear to my heart.

Next up-some of my thrifted goodness. I got most of the bowls for about a dollar. My vintage purse knocks me out. It was in brand new condition, and I paid $6 for it. WAY more then I normally would pay, but I LOVE IT! I kid you not, I get asked on a daily basis "Where did you get that purse?" at almost every store I go to, so I think it was well worth the investment. It is too cute for words!

Now onto one more little craft by me. See my shabby book bag I made myself for school. One day I started sewing scraps together and before I knew it, I was on my way to a bag. I collect vintage photos, so I have no idea who the lady is, but I think she's so adorable, and I bet she was a good student! LOL! I thought her glasses should be focused on so I found this quote: "The optimist sees the world through rose-colored glasses." I used my embroidery machine for the words, left the ends shaggy and sewed the words onto the front. I put a zipper in the top,and nice roomy pockets inside. It easily holds everything I need for my classes. She just makes me smile.

I wanted to share a super yummy, EASY dessert I've made a few times this week. I found the recipe on All Recipes, and tweaked it to fit my own style. Randi is doing her recipe swap again, so check out her blog for lots of yummy recipes!

swap blogpost

Blueberry (or whatever berry) less-then-five-minute-to-make Cobbler

4 cups fresh blueberries (or whatever ones you like) or (2)16oz packages frozen berries

1/2 cup white sugar (or 1/4 cup Splenda blend for baking is what I use!)

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 C. melted butter (or less fattening spread is what I use, and it works fine)

1 box yellow or white cake mix

1.Pour fruit in bottom of 13x9 pan. Don't mash it, leave it whole. When I used frozen, I used the fruit right from the freezer and it worked fine.

2.Sprinkle with sugar, and cinnamon. Mix it around to coat fruit evenly.

3. Melt butter in microwave-safe bowl. Dump DRY cake mix into butter. Mix with a fork or clean fingers. It will be the consistency of pie crust dough.

4. Cover fruit with cake mix topping.

5. Bake at 350 about 30-35 minutes, or until cake mix is lightly golden brown. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt or ice cream. Store leftovers in fridge.

I usually warm it, and don't even eat the ice cream. It's perfect just the way it is.

Don't forget for most of us in the United States, we need to "spring ahead" and set the clocks forward an hour on Saturday night before we go to bed. Yeah-more sunlight hours! Have a happy and safe week!

Hey there to you to Miss Carla! I loovvvve that vintage fabric. Is there a name or anything for it? I have a serious thing for vintage fabric of girls in dresses! What a lucky lucky find, especially since you recognize it from childhood!

Really enjoyed your blog. Glad I found it !
Kindest Regards,
